Jared Spoor, a junior majoring in cinema and media arts at Anderson University, has discovered a unique way to blend his passion for storytelling with his heart for Christian ministry. Since August 2024, Spoor has served as the technical director intern at Park Place Church of God, a role that has allowed him to grow professionally and personally.

The internship has provided Spoor with valuable hands-on experience. From managing live streams to overseeing audio and visual elements, he plays a key role in ensuring worship services operate smoothly.

“I make sure every service runs smoothly from a technical standpoint,” Spoor said. “So I see that the cameras are working, things are plugged in properly and slides go up on time. If everything goes smoothly, nobody should know I’m there.”

While his work happens behind the scenes, Spoor’s impact is visible and meaningful. The position has allowed him to sharpen his technical skills while also sharing his knowledge with others.

He credits the internship with shaping his character and professionalism, as he has been able to grow and establish himself as a young professional and also a member of the church’s community. Spoor emphasized the importance of staying open to new opportunities, as each one can lead to valuable connections and unexpected doors opening.

With just one semester remaining before graduation,  Spoor remains motivated by his passion to elicit joy through his craft. His journey began during his junior year of high school, when he produced his first film on a whim.

“We went out and we filmed it in one night. We did a lot of practical effects, like cutting up cardboard boxes to make them look like barn doors for our lighting. I realized how fun it was and that I could see myself doing it as a career.”

Although he remains uncertain about the future, Spoor appreciates the opportunities he has received at Anderson University. With a passion for filmmaking and ministry, he continues to pursue the intersection where creativity and faith meet.
