A Public Relations Senior’s Experience with Local Company

Lauryn Hopkins is a senior public relations student hired over the summer as a business development intern at The Flagship Enterprise Center. Powered by Bankable, a local business in Anderson, Indiana, the internship entailed giving tours, managing CRMs, and many other tasks.

It required Hopkins to use her interpersonal and organizational skills to work with clients and coworkers. Her added concentration in event planning and management in her public relations major, made her stand out when going through the hiring process as they were looking for someone who could help in that department. With her knowledge of events, she was able to help with a variety of events such as workshops, lunch and learns, board meetings, and a credit boost challenge involving local businesses that Bankable partners with.

She helped with every aspect of the events from setup to teardown making sure all of the events ran smoothly. This was something that came easy to Hopkins, as she enjoys doing this type of work and has learned these skills throughout her education at Anderson University.

Apart from her work with the events, she also helped any new potential clients and coworkers who were interested in the services the Flagship and Bankable had to offer. She learned how to manage client aspects on a CRM program called Office RND.

Hopkins also had the opportunity to attend different networking events around Madison County. Along with that, she was also able to gain experience in different departments within the company such as marketing, finances, and the referral partner engagement team.

“The whole purpose of the Flagship Enterprise Center and Bankable is to help small businesses and entrepreneurs grow and flourish, by providing resources to help them do just so,” said Hopkins, when talking about the mission behind this company.

Through this internship, Hopkins was able to gain a vast amount of knowledge and a great amount of experience. By working in the office and doing outreach work with the company, she was able to meet so many new people and learn more about the local businesses in Madison County.

The community she has made with her coworkers, superiors and local businesses that she’s helped has been life-changing.

Hopkins hopes to either continue her work with the Flagship and Bankable or use the skills she has gained to further her career in the future.
